Privacy Policy

1. Introduction
Wave Michigan is a voter engagement and civic organizing platform operated by RelA2ve Incorporated, doing business as Wave Michigan (“Wave Michigan,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). Wave Michigan provides candidates, campaigns, county parties, nonprofits, volunteers, and civic organizations with tools to find voters, manage outreach, coordinate volunteers, track engagement, and support civic participation across Michigan (collectively, the “Services”).
This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share, and protect personal information when you interact with our Services. It also describes the choices you have about your information, including your right to opt in to — and out of — email and text message communications from Wave Michigan.
By using our Services, you agree to the collection and use of your information as described in this Privacy Policy. This policy is intended to comply with all applicable Michigan data protection laws. Our Services are currently offered only in Michigan.
2. Categories of Individuals We Serve
Because different people interact with Wave Michigan in different ways, we organize individuals into three categories to help explain how we handle their personal information:

Wave Michigan processes this information as a service provider on behalf of our Customers. Their own privacy policies govern their use of this data. |
3. Information We Collect
3.1 Information You Provide to Us
Personal information you may provide to us through the Services includes:
- Contact information — such as your first and last name, email address, phone number, professional title, and business or organization affiliation. First and last name and email address are required to access Wave Michigan’s Services.
- Biographical information — such as your age, gender, political and professional affiliations, charitable interests, and occupation. This information is not required to access our Services.
- Event and engagement information — including the events you sign up for, the organizations affiliated with those events, whether you attended, and any feedback you provide.
- Payment and transaction data — collected by our payment service providers (such as Stripe or Plaid) to process donations or contributions you make through the Services. We do not store payment card numbers on our systems. Payments are governed by our payment processors’ terms of service and privacy policies.
- Transaction history — including your donation history and other engagement activity.
- Communications — such as support requests, questions about marketing, and job inquiries you submit to us.
- Communications preferences — including your preferences for receiving email and text message communications from Wave Michigan, and records of your opt-in consent.
- Device and activity data — information from cookies and similar technologies, such as device type, browser information, and online activity. See Section 9 (Cookies and Tracking) for more details.
3.2 Information from Third-Party Sources
In certain cases, we combine information we receive from you with information from other sources, including:
- Data providers and public records — We may obtain information from business data providers, corporate partners, or public databases to supplement your profile, conduct due diligence, or prevent fraud.
- Distribution lists — Our Customers may upload distribution lists that include names, email addresses, and mobile phone numbers of their donors, volunteers, or constituents. We process this information to provide the requested services in accordance with our Customer agreement and this Privacy Policy.
- Social media platforms — We may receive information about your activity if you follow us on social media or access our Services through a third-party login service (such as Google Sign-In).
- Third-party integrations — If you connect a third-party product (such as Google Sheets or Google Drive), we will request your permission to access that data to configure the integration. We do not use this information for any other purpose.
4. How We Use Personal Information
4.1 Wave Michigan Users
To fulfill our obligations to you, we use your personal information to:
- Facilitate your engagement with us and with organizations that use our Services;
- Process your donations and complete other transactions; and
- Deliver email and text message communications you have opted in to receive.
We may also use your personal information for the following legitimate business purposes:
- Recommend opportunities to engage with organizations and campaigns that use our Services;
- Send announcements, updates, security alerts, and administrative messages about our Services;
- Personalize your experience within the Services; and
- Respond to your support requests, questions, and feedback.
4.2 Customers
To fulfill our obligations to you, we use your personal information to:
- Provide you with our Services; and
- Complete your transactions.
We may also use your personal information for the following legitimate business purposes:
- Recommend opportunities to engage with other organizations and campaigns using our Services;
- Communicate with you about our Services, including updates, security alerts, and support messages; and
- Respond to your questions and feedback.
4.3 Customer End Users
On behalf of our Customers, we use personal information to:
- Enable Customers to recruit, engage, and communicate with their volunteers and constituents;
- Provide Customers with information about events, products, or other relevant services;
- Send announcements and administrative messages about our Services on behalf of Customers;
- Provide marketing and advertising on behalf of Customers, including interest-based online advertising; and
- Build donor or constituent profiles at Customers’ direction, including by appending email contact lists with social media account information obtained from third-party data providers.
4.4 Marketing, Research, and Compliance
We may also use personal information for:
- Direct marketing — to promote our Services through our website, events, and other channels. Recipients can opt out as described in Section 7 (Your Privacy Rights and Choices).
- Interest-based advertising — using cookies and similar technologies. Where required by applicable law, we will engage in interest-based advertising only with your consent.
- Research and development — to develop new features and create aggregated, de-identified analytics.
- Legal compliance — to comply with applicable laws, respond to legal process, protect rights and safety, enforce our terms, and prevent fraudulent or harmful activity.
5. Email and Text Message Communications
5.1 Email Communications
When you opt in to receive email communications from Wave Michigan, we may send you messages about:
- Upcoming events, volunteer opportunities, and canvassing activities;
- Campaign and organizational updates relevant to the causes you support;
- Voter information, election reminders, registration deadlines, and absentee ballot updates; and
- Wave Michigan platform news, feature announcements, and service updates.
You may opt out of marketing-related emails at any time by clicking the “Unsubscribe” link at the bottom of any email we send. Please note that even if you unsubscribe from marketing emails, we may continue to send you transactional and service-related messages (such as account confirmations or security alerts) while you are an active user.
5.2 Text Message (SMS) Communications
By providing your mobile phone number and affirmatively opting in through Wave Michigan’s opt-in form, you expressly consent to receive recurring automated text messages (SMS) from Wave Michigan at the mobile number you provide. These messages may include:
- Reminders about events, volunteer shifts, canvasses, or phone banks;
- Campaign and organizational updates relevant to the causes or campaigns you follow;
- Voter information, election reminders, registration deadlines, and absentee ballot alerts; and
- Wave Michigan platform news, feature updates, and service announcements.
Important Information About Our Text Program
Message frequency: Message frequency varies depending on your activity and the campaigns you follow.
Message and data rates: Standard message and data rates may apply depending on your mobile carrier plan.
To opt out: Reply STOP to any text message you receive from us. You will receive a one-time confirmation message, and no further text messages will be sent to that number.
To get help: Reply HELP to any message or contact us at info@wavemichigan.com.
Opting in is not required: Your consent to receive text messages is not required as a condition of using Wave Michigan’s Services.
Wave Michigan uses third-party messaging service providers to deliver text messages. Your mobile phone number will not be shared with third parties for their own marketing or promotional purposes.
Wave Michigan is not responsible for text message communications sent to you by our Customers on their own behalf. To opt out of messages you receive from a Customer, follow the opt-out instructions in that Customer’s communications or contact the Customer directly.
The opt-in and opt-out procedures described in this section are incorporated by reference into Wave Michigan's Terms and Conditions.
6. Disclosure of Personal Information
Wave Michigan may disclose personal information to:
- Service Providers Only — Wave Michigan shares personal information only with third-party service providers that process data on our behalf solely to deliver the Service. This includes cloud hosting and infrastructure providers that store and process data on our servers, and email delivery platforms (such as Constant Contact) that we use to send communications you have opted in to receive. These providers are contractually prohibited from using your information for any purpose other than providing services to Wave Michigan.
- Organizations and campaigns — Charities, nonprofits, candidates, and other organizations when you choose to engage with them through our platform.
- Service providers — Companies and individuals that provide services on our behalf, such as hosting, technology infrastructure, customer support, email and SMS delivery, and analytics.
- Professional advisors — Lawyers, auditors, bankers, and insurers in connection with professional services they provide to us.
- Law enforcement and government authorities — When we believe in good faith that disclosure is required by law or is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of Wave Michigan, our users, or others.
- Business transferees — Acquirers and other relevant parties in connection with a merger, acquisition, reorganization, sale of assets, or similar transaction. Acquirers will be subject to the terms of this Privacy Policy.
No Sale of Personal Information: We do not sell your personal information.
No Sharing for Third-Party Marketing: No user or customer mobile phone number or email address will be shared with third parties or affiliates for their own marketing or promotional purposes.
7. Your Privacy Rights and Choices
7.1 Account Information
You may update, correct, or delete your account information at any time by accessing your account through the Services.
7.2 Opt Out of Marketing Emails
You can opt out of marketing-related emails by following the unsubscribe instructions at the bottom of any marketing email you receive from us. You will continue to receive service-related and transactional emails until you cease using our Services.
7.3 Opt Out of Text Messages
To stop receiving text messages from Wave Michigan, reply STOP to any message we send. You will receive a one-time confirmation, and no further messages will be sent to your number. You may also contact us at info@wavemichigan.com to opt out.
7.4 Third Party Data Sharing
Wave Michigan does not sell your personal information. We do not share member information, contact information, or other personal information with third parties for their own marketing, advertising, or commercial purposes.
We share personal information only with service providers that process it on our behalf and solely to deliver the Service to you. These include cloud hosting and infrastructure providers that store and process data on our servers, and email delivery platforms (such as Constant Contact) that we use to send communications you have opted in to receive. These providers are contractually prohibited from using your information for any purpose other than providing services to Wave Michigan.
We do not share your information with affiliated organizations for independent use, and we do not operate an affiliate data sharing program. If this practice changes in the future, we will update this Privacy Policy and provide notice as described in Section 12 before any such sharing begins.
7.5 Additional Privacy Rights
Depending on your location and interactions with our Services, you may also have the following rights:
- Access — The right to request information about how we have collected and used your personal information. We have made much of this information available in this Privacy Policy.
- Correction — The right to request correction of personal information that is inaccurate or out of date.
- Deletion — The right to request deletion of personal information we no longer need for the purposes for which it was collected.
- Opt Out of Targeted Advertising — The right to opt out of the processing or sharing of your personal information for targeted advertising purposes. You may also limit online tracking through our Cookie Policy or by contacting privacy@wavemichigan.com.
- Appeal — The right to appeal our denial of any privacy request by contacting us as described below.
- Additional rights — Such as the right to object to or request restrictions on our use of your personal information.

- The first and last name you used to access the Services
- The email address you used to access the Services
We may verify your identity before responding to your request. Applicable law may limit the exercise of these rights. If we decline a request, we will explain why, subject to legal restrictions. You are entitled to exercise all rights described in this section free from discrimination.
7.6 Customer End User Data Rights
Customer End Users are individuals whose personal information has been provided to Wave Michigan by one of our Customers — for example, a voter whose information was uploaded by a campaign, or a volunteer recruited through a Customer's organizing tools. Wave Michigan processes this information as a service provider on behalf of the Customer, and the Customer's own privacy policy governs how that Customer collects and uses your data.
If you are a Customer End User and would like to request that Wave Michigan remove your personal information from our platform, please contact us at info@wavemichigan.com. Include your first and last name, the organization or campaign you believe submitted your information, and any other details that will help us locate your record. Wave Michigan will remove your information from our platform upon a verified request within 30 days. Please note that removal from Wave Michigan's platform does not affect records held independently by the Customer or any other organization.
For questions about how a specific Customer collected or uses your data, please contact that organization directly.
8. Third-Party Services
Our Services may contain links to websites and online services operated by third parties. Our content may also be integrated into web pages or services that are not associated with us. These links and integrations are not endorsements of, or representations of affiliation with, any third party. We do not control third-party websites or services and are not responsible for their privacy practices or content. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party services you access through our platform.
9. Cookies and Tracking Technologies
We use cookies and similar technologies to collect information about your device and how you interact with our Services. This information helps us improve our Services, personalize your experience, and deliver relevant advertising.

10. Information Security
We employ industry-standard technical, organizational, and physical safeguards designed to protect the personal information we collect. However, no security measure is perfect, and we cannot guarantee the absolute security of your information. If you believe your account has been compromised, please contact us immediately at info@wavemichigan.com.
11. Children’s Privacy
Our Services are not intended for use by individuals under 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 18. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 18 without the consent of a parent or guardian as required by law, we will promptly delete it. 12. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, legal requirements, or other factors. When we make changes, we will update the “Effective Date” at the top of this policy. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email (to the address associated with your account) or by posting a prominent notice on our website before the changes take effect. Your continued use of the Services after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.
